a fanart of Nanaki (Red XIII) from Final Fantasy VII for my friend, Maiku, a huge Nanaki fan. I've never drawn an animal like that, and had no idea how my own style of drawing would apply to drawing a fanart of Nanaki... I wanted so much to be able to capture his humanly emotion, while drawing him in his animal-like body, but I don't know how that worked out. In the end, Nanaki is one of my favorite characters in Final Fantasy VII (I gave up on listing favorites in order... I found that mostly I have a top 7, and my favorites are in there, each loved with the same intensity but on a different level, though I admit that I am most obsessed with Cloud... but it isn't as you think.) and I just wanted to be able to portray him in a way that I saw him- a character who is wise beyond his years, despite his mental maturity (although in physical age, he's older than the other characters, lol).

Done entirely in Photoshop 8, coloring is unusual for me because it was done highlighting against the darker red, rather than shading against a light color. I don't think it threw me off at all, but it was different for me. ^_^
That's a good angle. The face, mane, and such are fine, but I don't see the start of a foreleg. Still, I like the expression he's giving. You've made a good attempt at that good goal you said you had in the description. Yeah, I haven't played the games or seen the other media, but from what I've seen on DA, I like this guy.
He really is a great character, calm and level-headed, mature beyond his years, intelligent, and strong-willed, and has a great respect for the planet in the world of the game. I don't think he's as appreciated as much as he should be, but I have never met a single person that disliked him.
Thank you very much for your input. It's good to know that it's appreciated by someone who has an appreciation for animal and anthro art (judging by the types of images in your favorites) ^_^ It just makes your input that much more valuable, because I myself (while I appreciate the art) don't really draw these types of things very often.
I'm a bit confused about the foreleg thing... could you be more specific? I don't really know what you mean
Thank you. I love him as a character too... I think although he's the youngest... er... mentally, he's able to take control over his life better than just about any character, and see the right path to take.
